I would like to find a program that I can export my files from CU and put them in an animation. I do not need materials rendering or lighting, only a way to show off some mechanisms (pivoting and sliding); any suggestions?

                Hi Art,
I have not tried this, so I am not sure it will do what you want, but I found some videos on youtube which may be interesting. They were simple animations made using Google Sketchup, which also happens to be free to download, and there is a Mac version. Look at
http://sketchup.google.com/ As I understand it, this program is similar in many respects to viacad.

                Ian,
Wow, I looked at this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilJWmHth3pY and could not believe it. I will have to see if I can import parts into it.
Thanks Much,
Art

I have used Cinema 4d and I think it might be overkill for what your looking for. I tried a lower version of cinema but it didn't import very well (I use vrml 2)

One can carry on with this ad infinitum, but here's a good one as well. There are lots more.

The Sketchyphysics plugin looks to be pretty useful. Now if they could add in a modest FEA plugin...

www.blender3d.org Until they support OBJ or 3DS or something similar, your best bet with Blender is STL (binary). Has a built-in Physics engine. Steep UI learning curve, but powerful program. Multi-platform.

There is 3D Toolkit (old version of Electric Image)
http://www.dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=3dtk Fact export from CU will work very nicely.

I have, but not for animating - the renderer is excellent for the price.
