I've missed hitting the Apply button so many times - especially in Rendering - and consequently lost everything because it wasn't updated. Would be nice to work on-the-fly instead.. maybe?

Yes for an instant feed-back, but just for one category : Colors.

By modern standards - how should this work then ? I think it comes from Windows Wayback version I'm not sure we need an apply button anymore I think it's more confusing than it is helpful !?

Why do most CAD programs have the "Text Box" off to the side? Why can't one edit text right in the drawing or print? I don't know much about cad programming, but it always seems like most cad applications have trouble dealing with text. It would save 2 mouse clicks per edit if one could do it in the field...and then we would not forget to hit APPLY!
