A good feature would be to have the solid intersection tool with a modifier (alt-key) to retain one or both cut original solids!
This would make it really easy to develop inserts or covered cutouts or other parts that can be developed from a cut out region.

I'll second that! I've often wished that the option key could be used with the intersect solid command to delete the intersection and keep the remaining portions.

That would be a time saver. shift select parts to merge, or press option to delete something out of the merge leaving a solid that you want instead of more parts to snip off next.
