We're trying to get an idea on how many users are still using PPC macs for future development decisions.

Tim,

Poking around on Spatial's site, I saw a webcast to the effect the ACIS 19 will be Intel only. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

Hardware is still pricey, at least if you are looking at a Mac Pro, but feature and performance benefits of ACIS 19, Lightworks, and farther out, Snow Leopard pretty much eliminate PPC from contention. Better to put the effort into the platform with a future.

Total agreement with Tom.

ASICS 19 offers huge performance benefits that can only be seen on Intel machines. If you do continue PPC support meaning ASICS 18, then that should be consumer level products only.

Almost anybody who is serious enough to invest in Shark or Shark FX is likely going to have the funds to invest in a an Intel machine. If they haven't already bought an Intel Mac, ASICS 19 may be the reason to do so.

I use both, but I'm always looking for a reason to upgrade the PPC one. :)

I am using a MacBook Pro for most CAD now (although it does get a bit too hot).
The 5 year old Mac PPC tower I have runs the software I need, but its starting to feel slow.
So my most recent purchase, an 8 core MacPro for CAD and all, should help keep my feet warm this winter.

Apple doesn't seem to be heading in the PPC direction any longer. If there is a reason to switch to another platform in the future, then I will probably move my investment in software once again, as will many others.
