An issue I noticed immediately in v9, which wasn't existing in v8, is that I get white lines around edges. As you can see in the example image, it is not consistent either (see same item below, no white lines at same place), so I don't see this as a feature. It also looks ugly and jagged. Any news on this?

I believe this is because antialias is turned on. AntiAlias draws the edge along with nearby pixels using a blending algorithm. Most likely the part with "white" edges was drawn before the part behind it. So it blended using the white background. V8 does the same thing.
