hello Tim and co :)

I'm back...

Could you tell me how to generate a file containing all of Shark's custom preferences?
Dimensions, lines etc.

And where to put it in the MacOS system folders?

A long time ago, I knew how to create a Startup.dat file, but I don't know how to do it anymore.

Thanks!

Antoine

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your answers!

I don't know if it's really correct, but in any case it seems to work well for me.

If you want to have a configuration with all your preferences when you open the software, you can try this solution.

1. In Shark, create your environment, line thickness, units, size of arrows, etc...
Personally what I also do: I create different line thicknesses.
Then I delete them.
The software will automatically save the personalised lines created.
You then find them in the blank file opened by Shark.

2. Saves the file in : Startup.dat

3. place the file in the directory as my example and: ( Attention!, remove the suffix .sfx manualy and replace it with .dat )

4. Exit the software.

5. Restart the software and check.

This solution is very practical when you wish to have the same preferences on several versions of Shark in several computers.

Startup.dat goes here:

How do I make user defined styles, layers, and views for new drawings?
The startup.dat file is a great place to store user defined views, layers, and pen styles that you would like available for each new launch session. When ViaCAD launches, it looks for the existence of this file and if present, reads the contents into the program. To create a startup.dat file, start ViaCAD and create your specific pen styles, views, or layers. Save the file and rename to startup.dat. Move this file to the appropriate platform specific folder listed below.

Mac:
/Applications/ViaCAD 2D 11.app/Contents/Resources/startup.dat
/Applications/ViaCAD 2D3D 11.app/Contents/Resources/startup.dat
/Applications/ViaCAD Pro 11.app/Contents/Resources/startup.dat
/Applications/SharkCAD Pro 11.app/Contents/Resources/startup.dat

PC:
/Program Files/Punch! Software/ViaCAD 2D 11/startup.dat
/Program Files/Punch! Software/ViaCAD 3D 11/startup.dat
/Program Files/Punch! Software/ViaCAD Pro 11/startup.dat
/Program Files/Punch! Software/SharkCAD Pro 11/startup.dat

If you have a different version, substitute your version number for the number 11.
thanks 2 users thanked mitchb for this useful post.

be careful...

Startup.dat

not startup.dat

if it bugs, redo your file and replace it manually.

I have used the startup.dat file in several versions of TurboCAD, in some versions, it didn't work but never caused a crash. I'm currently using it in Shark V12 build 1572, it does not appear to be case sensitive since either upper or lower case works for me. Your crash report shows a segment violation, my first guess would be your startup.dat file may be corrupt. Try rebuilding it.

Just my 2 cents here, but if the dat file crashes the runttime, then the Dev team needs to add some error catching code so that if an error occurs it won't crash, but rather just skips reading the file, and then perhaps parks the caught error in a error log file or something.

Or better yet, include a "profile" editor EXE that allows user to select prefs and what-not and then it saves the dat file for you.
