The manual still says its an option and does not reference the stitch to solid option either... Any possibility of an option to put each part on a separate layers on import, it would be a big help when importing assemblies from step and sat files? Thanks Jason

Uh no. A layer per object is a bad idea. If structured by layers, I'd prefer to have one layer per group/assembly/subassembly, whatever you call it.
