I have been modeling a Ultralight aircraft and needed 3d models of various lengths of aircraft grade bolts.So using a couple different tutorials I downloaded from this site I set out to model the AN3, AN4, and AN5 bolts. As now, the models have been saved as ViaCad8 2D3D files. I will save them eventually as symbols. I am attaching one of the bolt files for review

Is there a specific tool for drawing thread like this model uses?

If not, is there a tutorial for this process?

Yes Filip, I have modeled each AN3 & AN4 bolt. I tried to attach zip files of the bolts but the upload failed due to a missing security token. So I can attach each symbol individually or if you send me a private message with an email address I will send you two zip files containing the symbols. Attached are two AN3 files, AN3-3 and AN3-60. This is the shortest and longest AN3 Bolts.

Hello All

Not sure if you're aware but there is a US hardware supplier McMaster-Carr which have downloadable 3D models of all sorts of hardware including fasteners, bearings, sprockets, etc, etc. Not all components are available as CAD models but a large proportion are. Best format to use is ACIS .SAT as these will open directly in ViaCAD or Shark. I have enclosed a quick screen grab of fasteners section from their website - http://www.mcmaster.com

I also use McMaster-Carr and have been aware of their support for a long time. Since I wanted my BOM for the Ultralight to reflect aircraft bolts and hardware, and not structural hardware I decided to model mil-spec hardware and AN aircraft bolts. I also realize I could import the McMaster file and save it as a mil-spec symbol, but that would defeat the purpose of having an accurate representation of my project.
