I'm desperately trying to shell the attached solid. The open face is the bottom small side. Shwll: 1mm.
I allay get an error. I tested with just a half, then works. Combined not.

The solid is a Airspeed pitot tube holder.

CAN'T ADD THE SFX FILE: 9MB. getting error.... :-(

Can you not shell half of it then mirror? It'll be something going on with intersections somewhere or something like that probably.

I tested in cutting it half, but I'm not able then to shell with two open faces. Shell with just the bottom works... strange...

Is there a way you can test:

— project splines at opposite end of the body,

— add a surface,

— thicken the surface outward to fill the cavity throughout,

— shell it?

That's not necessarily a solution, but might be a different solid generation to test for shelling.

I really dig ViaCAD, But models like this I can draw super fast in Moi3D. Then I send them back to ViaCAD using the STEP format. Using these two programs is like two peas in a pod. he he. When one program struggles with a certain function the other will dial it in. Moi3d has such an awesome flow and functionality. But ViaCad has a really amazing Fillet function. Moi sometimes struggles with Fillets.I also turn surface models from Moi into solids with ViaCAD. Moi3d has so much more than you will first see if you ever check it out. Check the Moi wiki pages. I always use ViaCAD and I'am constantly reading and watching tutorials, and practicing the techniques. The surface tools always make me say Wow!

Good idea. I just started to love the MoI3D these days, because it is more powerful and the perspective works and have scripting for Keyboard-Shortcuts and important Zoom functions are "In-Stream", Snaps are better visible and it is not expensive (under 300 $). I guess i have to buy it when v. 5 is released, but i know that Shark have more functions and better automatic auxiliary lines.

Here you can download the 3D model to play with iy: https://www.swisstransfe...c-4338-9160-01bbd36552d7

Moi3D, I never used it. But I guess, the 3D model is really nothing special and Shark, with its price, should be able to handle it. Shelling and fillets are sometime very hard to achieve with Shark. I spend hours to achieve some simple fillets, nothing special. Sometime it works really smooth, sometimes I have to give up :-(

Hello,

It is a classic case of shell not working due to external blend radii too small.

1 - to test : try very small thickness of shell ---> 0.1 mm works
2- Undo the test shell
3- remove the back radius 0.5mm ( in feature tree)
4- Smoothen the junction of the 2 blends in front (ankle) by blending 2mm
5 - Now shell works
6 - You can redo the small blend after shell

Many thanks for your posting ! Reminds me of my great experience with Moi3D, the fantastic support from Michael Gibson (the "inventor" of Rhino3D + Moi3D) and the committed community. If you had a problem, it will get solved quasi instantly !!!be it program wise or related to your individual project....apart from that we can confirm that Shark + Moi3D via step works quite nicely. As far as shelling and fillets are concerned this "older" Autodesk program 123D Design (still free) was quite often the solution to a given problem...download link:Autodesk 123D Design (free)

Nice post Relaxibus, I downloaded that model. That Swiss transfer website worked really well. I agree that Shark and Viacad can do anything that any other program can do. Reading the post from jlm and his pointers on your model was awesome. I saved that image and his explanation. Getting tips from high level users is the best way to learn. Was stoked reading the message from GARLIC. I too have 123D That was the first modeler I ever tried. Then they grabbed it up for Fusion. I still have a copy. But its so weird. Its like some of the icons are slowly loosing their detail. Might try re-loading it from your link. The way 123D did fillets was so amazing. Design Spark mechanical does have a very similar method. I found this new youtube modeler named S2-3D He is making some amazing video tutorials with Moi3D also check out Kuechmeister Swagger. Now when I watch Walter Riedinger model I understand these techniques much better now. Walter is deep into the Silo again. So many amazing programs to learn. And all of them increase my skill set. Have a good one Shark and ViaCAD users.

I dont believe that it be possible to replace Shark with it. I just plan to use it for big files which to big for Shark (but it change all colors to black.....) and maybe for assembling and for watching. I found for example no cover surface tool (which works so brillant full 3D) and no MTS. And the Layer Management can imo be improved.

When you get a MTS which are made with AutoCAD is this to much for Shark. For such files i need a alternative.

The Shark MTS should be used with Polyline and only be changed in the Draw views to precise curves when the snaps otherwise not findable. This solve the problems with hidden lines wich drawed as visible.

Update: I see also a little bit zoom-lag in AutoCAD MTS Files in Moi. Not so much like in the Imsi product family, but imo more than in autocad. i guess i buy autocad lite for such things.

PS: Why use you such a big taskbar? I) have my taskbar removed with 7+ Taskbar Tweaker When i come with the mouse accidently near to the taskbar, the taskbar stay hidden. This is possible with the extended setting "disable topmost" It works sometimes not properly when need the taskbar with win+t, but after alt+tab works it always. I have also removed the annoying taskbar thumbnails and the start button. UserPostedImage

Looks promising, i have to test this immediately :). A useable Freeware from Autodesk, this is nothing what i awaiting.

Update3:I found now my own Alternative for Big Files. biiCADo This have also a Shell Function, can read big Files good, have Direct X and smoothest rotating of all cad programs which i tested. But i didn't find out how to change the view rotating midpoint and how to remove this ugly circle which shown by the view rotating. And when using big files the zoom do not lag but the mouse lag then and fast zoom is anyway impossible with it. But it is not expensive, it cost only 89 €/a.

Hi, tested but it doesn't work for me... Hmmm... Could you upload your version or use SwissTransfer?

Are you on Mac or Windows?

Hello Relaxibus,

Can you check if I understood what you need ?

https://www.dropbox.com/...AIRSPEED-SENSOR.sfx?dl=0

I am on Mac Beta b1610

In 3D construction, shelling and blending are always tricky :
- some corners need to be blended before shelling (large radii compared to shell thickness)
- some need to be blended after (small radii compared to shell thickness)

Hope it helps.

JLM

It works! Thanks! Learned something new. We should add a new forum channel "HELP REQUEST" specific to help out others. I guess there are quite few desperate peoples around here looking for helps ;-)

But funny, if you cut in half and then try to shell, it doesn't work.
