When I export a drawing created with the wall tools as a dxf or dwg the drawing is incorrectly scaled.

The attached images show the problem:

Units are set to mm.
2 squares are drawn both 1000 x 1000 mm.
Black square drawn with wall tool.
Blue square drawn with polygon tool

After export as a dwg/dxf the blue square remains at correct size.
Black square is scaled up 1:25.4 ( 1 mm = 1 inch)

I have tried all variants of dxf/dwg from R12 to 2009 with the same result.

I hope someone might know how to fix this, as the architectural tools could be a real time saver in drawing floor plans, but I need to be able to export them to other CAD software.

Hi

You could as a work around select all your walls when done and edit-->change object to lines then export till this fixed, as the walls would not export in dwg or dxf as smart walls anyway but as lines. Maybe you don't want to save the file after converting to lines, so just draw what you want save the file then change to lines and export dxf/dwg then just close file without saving to keep your walls intact in VC

Thank you Jason! That tip works for me. I had another question as to why doors and windows don't export as dwg/dxf but that tip solves that problem too.
I now just need to put a post-it note on my monitor saying "convert to lines before export!"

I'm laying out floor plans in ViaCAD and then exporting them to SketchUp. This tool looks likely to be my quickest way to draw a floor plan yet. I'll be happy to give ViaCAD a good plug on the SketchUp forum now. ViaCAD needs more exposure and a wider user base.

Just curious... if smart walls / doors / windows aren't already lines classed as lines, then what are they?

I have just discovered that if I convert to polygons instead of lines, then the multi-wall details and colours are retained when importing the dwg into SketchUp. Nice!
