I have downloaded Windows 7 Beta, and I think it is excellent. I have the 64 bit
version. But sad to say I can not get ViaCad version 6 to work right. The first problem I have when it opens there is no background screen to work on. The Windows screen is what shows, and you can draw on it. You can close the file and open new, and then you then have the normal screen to work on. The worst problem is in the tool tabs, they build up in layers, about each time you click a tool there is an additional tool bar. Has anyone else had these problems, and if so how did you solve them.

We have not installed Windows 7 on our development machines.

When the app launches, it gets the default window size from an ini file in a folder. Sounds like maybe a user folder may have changed with W7.

Not sure on that one.

Hi John,

An OS beta, brave man. I am still using XP. I did purchase Vista but never installed it, I usually wait until SP2 :D

I downloaded Windows 7 Beta 32 Bit version and installed ViaCad 6 and it did not have any problems at all that I could find so far. ViaCad 6 has many problems in the 64 bit version that I hope are fixed in due time. I would like to use the 64 bit processors.

with 64 bit the addressing of the work memory is meant, i.e. accessing more than roughly 3,.. gb ram, it doesn't speed up applications besides missing work memory is emulated on the hdd.

I am glad to report that ViaCad 6 now works in Windows 7 64 bit. The program Windows 7 has been updated many times since it was first installed. All of the programs that I have that I use now work fine, the only exception at the moment is Google Chrome. Punch 5000 worked perfect from the first day I installed it. Turbocad Pro works perfect, but had some difficulty getting it to register right over the internet. I have had a slight sound problem with flight simulator FSX but it seems to have improved as well. I updated the Intel chip set yesterday and that is when I found
that ViaCad would work ok. I do not know what fixed it but I am glad that it was. I really like Windows 7 64 bit, it loads programs very fast and has many excellent features,
but you do have to get used to it as it is a change from XP

I've been told by fairly reliable sources, that W7 is basically more like XP again, but with a Vista-like interface. I'm interested to try W7 when it finally arrives.

the underlying kernel incl. driver model ([URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Driver_Foundation"]WDF[/URL] native) is still Vista, actually Vista/2003/XP/2000 is based on the good ol' [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT"]NT stuff[/URL].

see it more like Vista 2.0 or as Service Pack 2, the way Vista should have been already with the initial release.

Are we going to see the ACIS 19 kernel in Shark 6? I'm looking forward to multithreading on one of the Nehalem Mac Pros.

We're hoping to use R19, but still checking. R19 for Mac only supports Intel Macs so if you have a PowerPC, you will need to upgrade your machine.

Multi-threading is not available on Mac yet. I've talked to the Spatial lead developers of this feature and they could not provide a time frame. Interestingly, they are using unix threading calls, so it should work...

The Spatial press release is a bit misleading. They have not officially released a PC version either.

ok - slightly off-track .. does R19 have anything that could help me bend (as is) but with G2 continuity into the bend radial ?

No sorry, bending is G1, even in R19.
