This (watch the demo videos) is exactly what Shark / ViaCAD needs. The API is freely available, and the device is currently $70, although an evangelist that I spoke to there said the actual tech is pennies and that it will be built into all sorts of devices in the next year or so.

Imagine being able to just rotate your hand in space to rotate the model.

Developers >Tim< get a free unit.

I'm not totally convinced...

I worry about what they used to term as "RSI". Keeping your hands going all the time up in the air. My neck and shoulders already kill me from constant PC use.

Not necessarily, I think on it as a keyboard's complement, faster access to icons on screen, draw lines, visualization, (dolly, zoom, rotate), I think the keyboard must remain on its place, unless the interface where efficiently adapted to this kind of data input.

I think that it have a lot of possibilities, is like having two mouses with a lot of combination's keys, with faster access to the menus. (also it will be funny se other on the office waving your arms over the air)

:)

Tem, I came across this a couple of years back. Looks like a bit of a bargain?

I use the David scanner, and the LEAP/scanner possibility occurred to me, too. The docs say "8 cubic feet", which implies a 2' cubed volume. I was daydreaming about whether rotating an object in the hands above the sensor could produce a result. 1/100mm? I'm dubious about that resolution being consistent.
