I have been unable to create a single readable dxf or svg. I can open the dxf files in corelcad, but not in inkscape.

gives this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "dxf_input.py", line 530, in <module>
inkex.errormsg(_('%d ENTITIES of type POLYLINE encountered and ignored. Please try to convert to Release 13 format using QCad.') % polylines)
NameError: name '_' is not defined

I have tried to use r12, r13, r2019 and inkscape can read none of them.

And svg produces a blank drawing. If I could get viacad to make a readable svg I would not need inkscape at all.

Help please!

exporting to the DXF/DWG v2000 format regularly leads to the best compromise between supported entitiy types and compatibility with destination applications. A fallback to former versions (especially R12 and earlier) is normally not needed besides a deconstruction of several entity types as e.g. true hatches, spline and liipses etc. to (a bunch of) lines is required for e.g. some old software of e.g. vinyl cutters etc.

If the importing application does have problems importing a DXF/DWG the issue is typically caused by the... importing application.

Try if opening with the free ODA 'Drawings Explorer' works, if yes the DXF/DWG is regularly fine... and can be converted to older versions too.
