I am drawing a single cylinder model engine. I have the block drawn and a separate body on the top face which is the cylinder. The top of the cylinder has a flange and I would like to draw on the underside of the flange to create the water jacket. When I select the underside and orientate the drawing plane the flange is hidden by the block. I could hide the block but the cylinder also has a flange at the bottom that bolts to the block. The bottom flange is the same size as the top one so hiding the block would be of little use. Switching to wireframe is no good because of the bottom flange. The water jacket doesn't extend down to the bottom flange so I can't draw on that. Is there such a thing as a clipping plane?

Thanks for the reply, but I had already deleted Viacad from my computer. I get on much quicker with SolidEdge and DesignSpark. Lee

Just place a plane where you want it and then right click while hovering over the plane and the command "use as clip plane" will pop out. Once you do that, right click again and you can use view the plane. everything the plane crosses will result a 2D profile. Good luck!
