I import a dxf or dwg file drawn by a custom and I modify a couple of the lines then export it as a dxf. Then I import it into my CAM program and the lines I modified are segmented; like the cam program does not see it as a complete part. I've tried this in Draftsight and do not have this issue. So I'm guessing it's something with how viacad if processing the part. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

And this is another reason for better joining tool, see this post: http://forum.punchcad.com/showthread.php?t=4306

This also happens to me, with some cam softwares works if you group the lines that must be joined, example, group the lines that compose the slot, polygon, squarer or shape that you want to (i guess) cut.

If not, you must use auto cad to join them or compose command on vector works, that also works for me.

I have found that if a spline or conic is in the drawing your dwg files are near perfect, dxf files are about 90% success. Most job shops go from dxf to machine now without manual gcodes, so a ghost spline will be a gap in their part drawing. The convert to radius tool set with a .005 tolerance hides all errors I have found. Paper Space exports are near worthless for machine operators, clean model dxf with minimal (2 is best for laser/water with etch and prt only, drill lines 1 layer) layers are best.
We all love 3d on the computer, but reality on shop floor is 2d is usually better.

If you are exporting as R12 file, splines and ellipses are converted to polylines as that version does not support splines or ellipses.

Are they segmented if you read the dxf file back into ViaCAD?

Thanks for the replys everyone.

I've been exporting as R2010. Guess I should try R12. I am not sure how to check for segments in Viacad. In sheetcam segments show up in different colors.

TIP: group your curves entities before export them, that way, some cam software recognized as blocks and no as separated curves.

this work for me in Bobcad

How would I do this in ViaCAD?

Select the curves that should made a closed polygon/polyline, then select edit/group/group.
Do this with each group of curves that you want to be interpreted as self entity, for example, group 4 lines to make a connected square, or curve with connected arcs an lines.
