I would like to suggest (or, need to learn how of) ability to move layers around (an "up"/"down" key) to deal with one or more layers I need to move around.

See, I am creating lots of layers (to en masse turn on and turn off surface, volume, and structural entities for display and measurement purposes) and and finding it painful that I've created some of them within models I previously imported from .dxf files, only to find I no longer need the named layer, but cannot apparently transfer other layers into or out of the layers. This is going to become unwieldy quickly for me.

I would like to suggest that Concept Explorer have a sub-interface or an import-export/XML or better tool so that small-to-medium layer amounts can be handled right within ViaCAD. But, for those importing or needing to resolve layer conundrums in a spreadsheet, we need to export our layers and then manipulate them (maybe just reshuffling them, or reassigning color and level values), then re-import them, and seeing real-time regen of the changes.

I think it could be as "simple" as:

-- "freezing" the drawing for this process (not in the ACAD sense)

-- displaying the import/export interface or the manipulation interface

-- importing the changes

-- regenerating the display

Also, when within the interface, it would be nice if the CE "knows" that a user is sequentially or in adjacency manner editing layer properties, and then presents the next or nearest layer name so as to reduce scrolling and hunting of a layer. Maybe, dimming of text, or adding bullets near the layer name would help. Or, maybe "en-heightening" the list dynamically. If the user modifies adjacent layers, keep the list small. If the user is hopscotching up and down the list, then dynamically "embiggen" it and "debiggen" it since ViaCAD icons are not among the smallest around.

Been quite a while since i posted this. Recently, in the past 2 weeks, i had another take on this idea (unless i or someone else posted before this):

-- it might be useful to add to each layer a check box that allows ad-hoc grouping of layers

This would be useful when inspecting and moving contents between say 3-7 layers in a very long layer list. Even stretching the layer palette sometimes has limits
