Not long ago Spatial announced they would stop support for this format claiming it was not really "open".

That was an interesting read. Sounds like a very powerful file format implementation.

When i "googled" for "JT Format Visualization format competitors" i got:

http://worldcadaccess.typepad.c...-interop-release-21.html

"Spatial explains why no JT in InterOp Release 21
It has sent a mild shock wave through the industry: Spatial is not supporting Siemens' JT format in InterOp Release 21.

(InterOp is the 3D model translation API that lets other CAD vendors and third-party developer read formats like CATIA, SolidWorks, and Inventor, for import into their CAD systems. Spatial is owned by Dassault Systemes.)"

Slightly more information is at the URL.

I hate the JT format. The way it is used here in the auto industry the models are very lightweight, holding little more than facet data. You can't do anything with it. It's certainly not a CAD model as we know it.
