Hi, I am new to ViaCAD Pro 7 so quite a lot of the stuff still make no sense yet.
I would like to import Solidworks ans Inventor files. How?

I have heards about translaters / converters. Are there any freeware ones?

I have successfully impoerted an electric motor and a pillowblock bearing from Sketchup, but the edges are blocky and not smooth like in ViaCAD. What setting to use to smooth it up or is that just one of the limitations of Sketchup.

I would like to plan a belt sander for knifemaking, but as a newbie with ViaCAD I don't want to spend years on the motor. I downloaded models from the Internet but they are in Solidworks, Inventor and Sketchup format.

Can anybody please hit this idiot against the head to point me in the right direction?

I couldn't quickly find a free translator for you to use.
I would just draw the motor - it would be easier (and good practice for you).

Try to avoid Sketchup files if you can because they are just meshes and not real solids.

Hi Johan

You could try looking for parts/motors in a generic format that can be imported like STEP, STP, SAT, IGES, or even DWG
