MS has unfortunately removed the configuration ("right-click > Properties > Compatibility") for disabling the [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_Window_Manager"]Desktop Window Manager[/URL] (which was introduced with Vista for generating the Aero eyecandy), i.e. the DWM is always running and even cannot be disabled by the application itself:



Therefore applications which do use [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL"]OpenGL[/URL] for the (accelerated) 3D display output as well as the Windows [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_Device_Interface"]GDI[/URL] for the 2D stuff (as e.g. dialogs and windows etc.) may suffer in a flickering or incorrect display output.
