I'm looking to add another chapter to the ViaCAD tips and Tricks for PowerPack. If you already have the Tips and Tricks book, this will be a courtesy 3rd edition pdf version.
Regards
Tim

thank you Tim i do have the book and iBook version, I looking forward to your 3rd edition.
I'm wonder if there may be access to some of the drawing files you use like the turtle or the car for practicing some of the features in the power pack.
perhaps i have missed how to obtain these if they are available.
I would recommend the PowerPack Pro to anyone it has some really good features.
many thanks again.
regards
Brian

I can use the files in demos, but cannot redistribute the files. One my favorite places for test OBJ files is craftsmanspace at:

Thanks so much Brian!
FYI, build 1168 is uploading to the servers tonight for Shark FX, Shark LT, and ViaCAD Pro PowerPack customers. This build has more PowerPack corrections plus a couple of enhancements for the best fit line and best fit circle routines.

Hi Brian
I used the Best Fit Line tool and selected the scanned mesh. Since the part is somewhat symmetrical and dense with points, the best fit line was close to the part axis in this example. I then used the Align To X-Axis and referenced the start/end of the best fit line. This aligns by transforming the part from the start/end of the best fit line to the x-axis.
I noticed you can get a better axis if you use the PowerPack : Delete Facets to remove everything but the cylinder of the part.

Hi Brian
>Align To X-Axis
This is one of three alignment options for meshes (Align to x-axis, Align to Part, Align by 3 points) under PowerPack:Mesh : Align Mesh.
>>are there any video's for infinite plaines
I don't think I have a video on infinite planes. The infinite plane tool is frequently used to calculate planar intersections. In the above example it was used to slice a scanned mesh creating a polyline. I then converted the polyline to a circle using the PowerPack : Draw : Best Fit Circle tool;

The Align X-Axis tool will also accept a solid.

Hi Tim, Just tried 1168 late last night and the best fit circle tool works a treat. No problems like 1167 :) Great software, loving it. Also the Align Axis tool is working really well with the 3D scanner now, just got to get the slicing organised and try and do a best fit curve. One thing, what does "shape Tolerance" do, I tried the default 2.54 (1/10"??) and changed it to 0.1 and it seemed to be smoother, but no idea what it does in reality. Mike

Thanks Mike for the update.
>>shape Tolerance
After it converts a mesh into a candidate primitive shape, it then compares each mesh vertex with a closest point check to the resulting solid. If this distance is less than the Shape Tolerance, it passes for conversion.
