Kind of a technical one, maybe Tim will answer? I've been fooling with the open-source FreeCAD program, which has many useful Python macros, one of which unrolls ruled surfaces, but sometimes chokes. I'm wondering if I use surface extend on a ruled surface, does the extension extend along the ruling lines, so that the surface including extension is still a ruled surface that the FreeCAD macro might unroll?

Yes, the extended surface should still be a ruled surface.

As a quick check:

Edit: Change Object Type to Surface the Extended Surface

Select the surface and show the data entry tab of the inspector.

A ruled surface will have a degree v = 1. Degree 1 is linear. A degree 1 surface should be developable (unfold).

Do a Edit:Show Points to see the underlying control points
