So I am just wondering what peoples experience is with using ViaCad and 3d printing. I just recently picked up a small 3d printer and have designed a few parts and have been very happy with the results. As long as I am working with ViaCad files I haven't hit any issues, but if I get a model from somewhere I have a hard time making modifications with any software I have found so far. I just paid for the upgrade to ViaCad Pro 10 and the PowerPack so I hoping that will help, but I am sure there will be a learning curve. Will PowerPack help me out, or should I be looking at something else?

Excellent, if you get a chance, post some images/results. It's exciting to see how people use the product. A guy in Encore's QA group used ViaCAD 10 to create a doghouse as part of his testing process.

PowerPack originally evolved out of my frustration of using models from thingiverse, grabcad, or sketchup in ViaCAD. These files do not have the stringent volume checks that ACIS has.

PowerPack will let you identify and repair objects.

PowerPack Pro will let you convert a mesh into a "usable" solid using one of two primary methods: Mesh to Analytic and SubD to NURB. There are some operations that work better on a solid then a mesh (and vice versa).

Wow Power Pack Pro sounds nice, once my software budget recovers a bit I'll have to buy it... although at that point the add-ons will cost more than the base program and I'm not sure I will be able to afford the next upgrade cycle... about 2 years until version 11? Most of what I have at the moment is pretty simple but I will try and post the complete projects as I get done with them. I am still new to the 3d modeling parts but I am having fun learning and being able to print out the parts really enhances the process, of course now I want an SLA printer.
