I have tried many options to try and unroll a surface to produce a cutting outline for a brass sheet head light for a model steam locomotive, I am making.

I first made a solid model then converted it to a Surface. From the surface I tried using the PowerPack unroll command, but am have virtually no success. I did look at a tutorial on YouTube of Viacad unfold command and could reproduce similar results. Thus I think the PP unfold / unroll command is working, however not on the model I made.

I have attached a picture of the top of the loco head light I am trying to unfold. I ideally need a layout of a side and front. I have also attached a picture of the side of the light, which was converted from the solid model to a surface. I then manually removed sections from the front, back and other side mesh elements. Still I had no luck with unrolling it.

I have also attached a copy of the file I am working with. I am using TCMac Pro V 11 and V12 with the Powerpack.

Any help or guidance would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you,

Keith

Convert it to a mesh first. It doesn't work very well with surfaces at all. If it was a ruled surface you would have more luck with it as it has something to progressively unroll.
Attached file converted to a mesh and unrolled. Just select the surface, right click, change object type, select mesh
