@CNC_Kid,

I don't have any specific software to do this, but just had a go at redrawing it, essentially extruding polygons placed on the outer surface, then filleting and applying a radius over the exterior mesh.
I haven't done the inside, but if you change the transparency or colours, you should be able to draw polygons and extrude, then subtract to get a final solid.

I don't know if it'll help, but I'll upload the file, so you can see what I did.

Mike

It has fewer than 400 facets, select it and right-click, change object type to faces and convert with stitch-to- solid tool in Solid Utilities, enclosing all of the faces with a selection fence. If you've got more than 3K faces, use mesh booleans to edit .stls and .objs, they work much the same as solid booleans, shelling and blending aside. You can use mesh booleans for mesh objects with fewer than 3K facets too, of course, but you have the option to convert them to solid as well. PowerPack can convert objects >3K facets to solid with convert to analytics by recognising mesh regions that represent planar n-gons, conical, cylindrical and ellipsoid sections.

I thought I did a reply. SFX files won't open in my VC Pro v11.
I see the object in preview when doing a File - Open, but I get this when opening.

I will also try post #3.

I took @a.wieneke file, and opened it, then export as a SAT file, which you should be able to import/open ok

Mike
PS had to zip it as forum don't accept .sat files

So I open the sat file, says it's a solid. I create a surface for slicing, using Split Solid Using Surface I get this error.

Nope, direct download of SFX and the Zip, opening SFX throws that error.

@CNC_Kid,

...and I had the same problem when I converted it using the Solid Utilities or PowerPack Mesh to Analytics options.
I never understand why if I have cylindrical parameters set, I see meshing like facets to the filleted surfaces.

This is why I attempted to redraw using polygons and extrude etc to mimic your part, but one of my radii was wrong.
However, this approach does allow for a "genuine" solid you can slice through.

Maybe you could slice the original mesh midway and trace the profile and extrude this?

Mike

@CNC_Kid,

What you can do is create a Mesh Block and subtract this from your original STL, then definitely trace the profile to make an extrusion that you can chase around a polygon.
Screenshots to give you an idea.
Maybe this will help you?

@CNC_Kid,

...so using mesh solid tool to create a cuboid and subtract that from your original STL, allowed me to create a profile to extrude in polygon path, and this creates a solid.

Hope you get the idea

The simplest way to convert this polygon mesh into a solid body should be the good old Subdivision to Nurbs method. I tested it with Version 9 build 1162, but it failed.

Agreed, I miss that, but on my old i7 processor, that used to take a long time. I bought a 3D scanner years ago, and used to try and convert STLs then, with mixed results.
I wonder if we will ever see this again, or is it a licensing issue?
I did test the OP's file and it did say it had non-manifold edges, which might cause errors.

It is realy "funny", with the "solid" i can use : Add Solid and it works, but i can not use Subtract Solid and CutOut Solid is also not working. Wondering why add solid is working , also the blend tool.

Did you ever get your 4x4 post trim piece dialed in. I had fun recreating it. I chopped the profile and then I extruded it into the exact dimensions. I can send the files if you ever want them. It was a fun litle project. Have fun CNC kid.
