What is the most efficient method of drawing leaf springs, especially ones that are deeper than wide?

Probably sequentially copying/scaling elipses. Extrude them, shell them, trim and arrange them. They're semi-elliptical leaf springs by definition.
On reflection, not so. Successively offsetting an elliptical arc is better.
