Does anybody remember how to change an object into a light source? I have a model of a flame on a candle that I want to light a scene with. I believe that it was a rendering setting, but I can't remember. I am also trying to make a white candle material that the flame will glow through (its a pillar candle). I cannot get anything even close. I always have problems with making natural looking plastics with Shark, but this much harder. My white material has a dark gray shadow coming through it. If anyone has done this I would love to get a model I can cut and paste, or settings that I can copy. Thanks in advance, Art OSX Shark FX 750

Thanks Art for asking this.. I needed to know a few weeks ago but didn't think to ask... I had an assignment in which my 3d scene had a bar countertop which was white and translucent with light emanating from underneath and had to be shown as such. I know Ashlar-Vellum's Cobalt can make an object a light source. This seems like it should be easily done as it's important.

I'm not sure that this is possible, even in the much improved V7 rendering Of course it can be simulated If anybody knows different, please chip in If it's not possible as I suspect .. maybe it can be in the future !?

I am not sure it is possible with this version. But I have only performed serious rendering with Shark,Cobalt and the other versions so somewhere in these products lines it existed, perhaps it was removed? Art OSX Shark FX 750 Misterrogers, the effect you were looking for is almost exactly what I am trying to do

Hi Art It's back in V7 under "lit appearance" under Reflectance shader type. Selecting this type will make the object a light emitter. Drop me a private email if you want to get access to V7 beta. Regards, Tim

Cool! I'm glad to see that v7 will be offering this. I'm growing antsy and drooling in anticipation for it's release.. or at least some list of it's new features as compared to v5. Is that at least available? ART: Good luck able to get your rendered surface lit. I spend a lot of time doing lighting fixture studies for school so it's something you really never think about until ready to render.. but so important nevertheless.
