Hello,

Tim?

The tool "path duplicate" make a no correct placement with a path no planar.

I can do it manually, but it is very long time.

Do you have a better idea for the placement of objects to normal or at perpendiculary to the face of an object?

my demo: (33MB)

Please, clic and drag .swf to your browser

Thanks

Antoine

Today, I reproduce other results that yesterday.
Example from yesterday was projected line.
Today one circle and a bug (or elephant hehe)
see here: Punch! Cad Forums
Summary for PathDuplicate, what today works, that's tomorrow not more !!!

Can you send me your viacad/shark file? I will make a movie showing a new feature that may help you.

Just a thought that might help, Antoine. If you make a surface copy of the face you're setting your jewels into, and trim it with the path you're using, then thicken the trimmed surface, the edge of the thickened surface is normal to the trim edge (path).

I could benefit from this, or at least from re-reading the user guide. In my case, i have two long, downward and outward pipes/tubes/cylinders that are propeller shafts at one diameter, 3.5 feet. I want to draw 15' diameter ring at the end representing the propeller disc. Since the shafts are not parallel to the axes in the drawing, i need to figure out how to either:

-- use the end points of the longitudinal axis and draw the disc perpendicular to that, or

-- thicken the whole thing and explod the edges and change the user plane/drawing plane temporarily or figure out how to just draw perpendicularly from that

I know i can set snaps. I tried that, but i'm for some reason not getting the disc to be perpendicular to the shaft.

I know this must be easy, but i'm looking too hard to see the answer.

A less elegant possibility is to just draw a tube of the diameter i need using the same axis, then exploding the edges and discarding the tube. Is this a case of "elegance is irrelvant if the desired result is obtained in roughly the same time or number of steps"?

Define a cylinder along the longitudinal axis of the shaft using the axis endpoints, edit the height and diameter to represent the propellor envelope, and move it to the correct end of the axis. The first endpoint you snapped to will be your reference point, so you shouldn't have to move it if you've snapped to the propellor end first. Change it to curves if solids don't suit you.

We've modified the Translate Along Path to support reference surfaces for the alignment vector.

hello Tim,

thank you for your interest and your response to my request.

to resume: I want the volume to follow the curve only twist problem.

My suggestion: simply to align objects to the surface (volume) perpendiculary WITH a new tool created by Tim
For exemple, the name for this new tool: link curve with perpendiculary information with surface/volume

Action:

---- Link the curve placed on the surface (volume) too the information of the perpendiculary sp©cificities surface (volume)

Same information ---"menu verify" --- "show direction"

Here is a demo file to better understand my request.

and a 3D model file for a test with your new function corrected for the tool:

thank you in advance.

Here is the English version:

http://www.3design.com/images/s...EN/associativity_EN.html

I found "Collisions Handling" (??) to be interesting. I didn't SEE what it was doing, but i assume it means automatically trim or leave out any geometry going beyond a hit or cutting area..... I wonder if that means one can grab some piece of geometry and the software has an ambiguity selection of parts so the right axis can be stretched/scaled or extended outward to or beyond a line, a surface or a solid boundary...

I also didn't notice a slider or progress indicator, so i am not sure if i missed a rewind or if this vid will go for 5 minutes. What is NICE is that i just click the link and the vid plays.
