Making a new part with a dimension change. (#4824)

Is there a way to change a dimension and letting it change all the things that are dependent on that dimension. I am thinking custom motorcycle crowns. They all look about alike, but some have different offsets (forks to steering center) and others have different fork center distances or diameters. I would like to make a generic drawing and then just make the minimum changes to generate part. How would I do this? Don

You need to learn how to do constraints. Not an easy task. good luck!

Dimensional associativity (association?) is one-way only. Change the size of the curve and the dimension updates, not vice-versa. But, as Rocky says, you can establish dimension-based constraints with Shark FX, or use combinations of other relational constraints. But, you can build in a degree of parametricity in VC 3D and up, using concept explorer. You can select lines, arcs, circles, whatever, in the tree and alter their dimensions in the data box, or, probably more simply, drawing the alternatively-sized lines, arcs, circles, whatever, at the same time as you're drawing the base geometry, and use "replace curve" for the generators. VC 3D and up also allow you to copy parts with history, and you can make iterative changes to the copies to alter the parameters, which is often useful because it gives you access for comparison in the same environment. You can also export "selection only" to split out the particular file components and parts that you want.

Thanks for the replies. The manual in ViaCad mentions associations once, but is no help. Don
