Normally, when using the Substract Solid tool, you select one solid which part you want to remove from the solid you click there after. But with this imported dxf file, which is just text created in Illustrator and exported as dxf, it doesn't work. I used Extend solid to create a solid that goes trough a cylinder, but when I subtract this solid from the cylinder, it brings up an error:

'Failure in face-face intersection merging algorithm' and then referring to the main cylinder.

I have "ungrouped" the text, which was imported as "grouped".

When I create an ordinary block solid, it works as expected.

Anyone know why this happens and how to solve it? I have the VC file attached.

Maybe some bad stitched solid, i re-stitch each one and simplify the geometry for the letters and subtract goes just fine,

done in shark, here you have the file

Nop, Correction, there are a few weird surface on the model, my experience with illustrator is that tend to duplicate your curves, so, you have two overlap splines on all the text curves, beside that, curve's geometry from illustrator it is always painful for me, need a lot of work to clean or reconstruct the geometry.

With this curves, the resulted subtraction produce weird surfaces on the solid

Here you have the file after cleaning the curves geometry

Thanks for that! How did you do that, how did you clean that up? I have to do more. I noticed the overlapping, but by ungrouping them I could individually extract them, but what did you do afterwards?

Make sure that the illustrator file has only outlines. Fills will double up each line.

In this particular case, I extrude from the original curves, then simplify the geometry to convert surfaces to analytics, then, I extract the curves from this solid, remove their links, erase the solid, simplify the resulted curves, i did a region trim with this ones (this work for me to clean up a some overlapped curves), then check and fix gaps and overlaps (i get jus one gap on this one), and this way works.

I think i got luck on this one, overlapping and gap fixing tool has been requested on this forum, hope we have them soon, Working with a higher number of curves from illustrator can be a real time consumption task
