Would it be a complete flight of fancy to ask for ViaCAD/Shark to have a fully automatic dimensioning option?

My idea is that when we select an object - say a cube with a few holes and blends for instance, ViaCAD/Shark goes and retrieves all the measurement data that it has in the history and then lays out all the measurements for us.

it obviously would never be perfect in its layout, but it could probably be a lot smarter than I am in placing everything, particularly if it could look for clear space onscreen for somewhere to put things.

Seconded.

If a feature is added, the visibility of the dimensions could be user-suppressed by pressing a key immediately before or after (maybe in-stream) the features is generated. Better yet, maybe show them all but the user has to turn them off. Or generate them invisibly, and the user can press UHD (YES, a MULTI-key shortcut!) to "Unhide Hidden Dims".

However, if you've seen Punch! Home & Garden Design, you may really like automatic dimensioning.

Another great idea. Certainly will be a time saver. I can't see why this wouldn't be possible... All it would do is display what it already knows to be true saving the user from having to do it themselves.

I meant Punch! Home & Landscape Design, but mine is the ~$50 version I got at Fry's Electronics a few months ago...

And, imagine the time saved from avoiding tangled dims, or time spent trying to de-tangle/un-cross dims...

This could be like Dims on Steroids...
