Found this interesting free app that will remesh a mesh, which is needed to convert some meshes into NURBs.

I downloaded and tested with some success.

In the attached image, Instant Mesh took the bunny from 110K triangles to 2k quads and the gargoyle from 100k to 20k quads/triangles.

I saw that and downloaded a version for Mac OS X. I am not sure when I'll have a chance to check it out though.

Hi Tim,
I've tried to remesh a few triangle polygon files in the OBJ format.
It seems to be very strict about adhering to the file formats standards. It has rejected several OBJ files from several of my apps that don't seem to have any issues sharing the same OBJ file.
I have been able to contact one of the research developers of the project. He has since changed jobs and has moved but was kind enough to reply to me out of the 4 people I emailed.
If I have time this week, I'll try to create a similar file in several of my apps and output as obj, then test each file in IM. From that point I am considering sending those files and the results of each import and remesh attempt back to that developer.
