Reducing the number of surface control points in an easy and orderly way

Hi, Is there a command that is opposite to the "elevate surface" command? I'd like to adjust a surdace via its control points but there are just too many of them to maintain smoothness, etc. Can the number of surface control points be reduced to a manageable number in an easy and orderly way? Thanks. Mark

Not sure if this helps, rebuild surface removes most of the control points.

Craig, Thanks for the suggestion. You're right, it reduces the number of control points but, unfortunately, by not very much.

If you're on Windows, there's a free maritime design program called PolyCAD that gives the most direct surface rebuild/subdivision to be had. Knock out or insert rows of control points as you want, convert to control point mesh, same facility with rebuilding/subdividing curves and polylines, too. Excellent smoothness indicator combs, nice plain-English human-readable file format, exchanges IGES, .dxf, and some ACIS too, but doesn't do trims or blends, in fact untrims surfaces. polycad.co.uk

Strange, on V8 when I try it it wipes out most of them and leaves a few.
