When Viacad imports Sketchup models it creates a "planar" objects. How are these different than the normal objects Viacad creates and what can I do to fully make them behave and appear like Viacad objects? (I end up with a lot of extra lines etc) JB

SketchUp supports facetted (planar triangles and quads) objects. It does not support NURBS like ViaCAD.
To convert into a precise solid like ViaCAD, you would need to convert the part using PowerPack Pro. Or recreate using the SketchUP part as reference.
Sometimes it requires a bit of work to convert a SketchUP file as the parts were never intended to be watertight. I have some videos below showing some examples.

Well sounds like probably faster to just redraw in VIacad in many cases.
