Change the size of an existing hole (#4444)

I'm using viacad 7. I have some holes in a block that I need to resize and move. I used the option command when I originally drew them so I have a center point on each one. I can't seem to "select" the holes so I can make them a larger diameter? Is there an easy way to do that? Also, If I select all and move the entire block, the center points don't seem to move. Is there a way to keep them in the center of the holes they were drawn with?

You would need to use the offset face in the solid commands. Use a negative to make larger and positive to make smaller. There's also a move face feature to move the hole to your heart's desire.

Thanks! I was able to make them bigger and smaller, but haven't been able to move them. The holes i want to mover are counterbored, can I select all those faces at one?

Yes. Use the top view and select the entire hole by using drag. thereafter, you should be able to select two points. Use random points and then you can be more specific in the dx, dy. I don't presume you are able to move up and down given that you are in the top view.

Can I use the Offset Face tool to increase the diameter of a hole or just the depth? If so, how?

That depends, if your hole comes from hole tool, and you still have the history, you can change the diameter directly on objects properties info pallet but prior the feature must be selected on the object history tree on the concept explorer feature's window. If you don have such history tree on your object, then the radius (not the diameter) differences must be calculated and set on the offset face tool, negative or positive depending on the diametres differences you want, select the cylindrical face of the hole not the deep face, and thats it, this also work whit "thicken solid" tool. Thanks Luis, yes I was referring to a situation where no history exists. Tried it and it works the way you said. Awesome!

Is there a way to make sure you have a "history tree" for an object? And how do you access it?

The object's history tree is displayed on the features tag on concept explorer window, just select an object, navigate to concept explorer, click the features tag and it will show the selected object with his embedded history, remember that you erase object's history if you select edit/remove links command, and copy command doesn't copy the history, ergo, the pasted part doesn't retain, so there will be no history on object on that cases. I was having the same problem today and used the move face tool to move a hole. Thanks for posting not only the problem but the answers.
