Hi all,

Hi everybody,

These last days I made different tries to improve my drawing of a bolt.

Today I tried with the great tutorial of WDP67 in pdf format :

but I got some problems when it was time to use the " One Rail Sweep " tool with the profile I just created. See what I got.

I tried to attach the viacad file but the upload failed.

My graphic card or my misuse of Viacad?

Hi Luc,

Without a file it is difficult to know what the problem is. If the forum will not allow an uploading, then upload the file to one of the free hosting sites, then you can post a link here for the download. I currently use 4shared for file hosting, there is free storage of up to 10GB http://www.4shared.com/

Hi Steve and all,

Here two files showing my tries of drawing the threads of a bolt using the tutorial of WDP67.

The first one before using " One Rail Sweep " tool :

What operating system are you using? What version of ViaCAD? Are you using ATI video card?

Hi Steve, JDI000 and all others,

I have a cheap desktop that become slower every day. It is a 352 Mhz, 512 Mo, 160 Go with an ATI graphic card.

I uninstalled ViaCad version 2D/3D 6 and reinstalled it and nothing change. So I installed this software on my cheap laptop. I hate to install software on my laptop because it works fine and I don't want see it become slow like my desktop. But for today, everything goes well.

ViaCad works fine on the laptop and I finally made the bolt according to the tutorial of WDP67. See the attachment.

One day I will send my desktop for repair( or find another solution), until then I will continue to practice with ViaCad using laptop when necessary.

Drawing that bolt with the help of nice people like you was very interesting and educative. I learned about the limits of my computer but learn also about new tools and astuces to do thing.

I have to take a little break now I have pain in my shoulder!

Sure I got some problems with the drawing of that bolt but a life without problems is not a life.

Hi Luc,

I though I would post a movie to show how I create threads in VC.

The way I do these is so that there is a lead in/lead out of the thread.

This is just quickly done to show the process.

Hi Mike,

What capability?

I am only trying out camtasia, I will not be purchasing it.
I can get the same results by using camstudio + quicktime pro.

Oh wow! What a great way to show things, Steve.

Your video is crystal clear. I am aimpressed.

One day I will have to learn how to do things like that but I will have to improve my drawing speed a lot before.

The way you draw your bolt inspire me a little idea on how to draw a nut now.

I think I will have to inverse the thread to do it. I'll be back soon with my next experience.

Ah, right.
At one time I did post movies in divx format, but I dont think some like to have to install another player or the divx codec to play them.
I was having a look at camtasia, but for $300 it is too expensive as I would not use it enough. I will now be using Camstudio(free/open source) and then convert to Mov using quicktime pro ($30) and the result are just as good.
