Like many other here, I am new to 3D Modeling so thank you for your patience.

I am trying to build a straight threaded fitting. Often times, I consider how I would build it in a machine shop and try to recreate these actions in modeling. What I am trying to do is turn a round threaded end into a hex solid. I can't see a way to do this so I started to approach it another way.

I create a 2D Hex, extrude it to the length I need. Then, I want to turn the end. I thought if I extrude the circle from the end of the solid back into the body and split the hex away, I would leave my cylinder, however I can't seem to find a way to split the solid hex internally.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I can see what you are attempting and the thought behind that, but it will cause you extra unneeded work.

There are various ways to construct. 2 that come to mind:-

Create the Hex head to correct thickness, then add a cylinder for the thread. You can then boolean them together.
OR
How I would create that, would be to create the hex head using "Prism" then add a "boss" for the thread.

In both cases, there can be a need to create a line for ref to place the cylinder or boss.

Welcome to the forum,

- Steve

edit:-
I can post some screen grabs or a vid later if needed.

Hi,

Here is how I would create the blank bolt.
(there is info on these functions in the user manual, but if anything is unclear, then just ask).

Create the "Prism", draw a line for ref, Add "Boss feature"
