Right Click - Duplicate Part History...but maybe you will loose some history part in the original object??

I right click and select duplicate with history, then what? Nothing happens. I can drag off the new part, still with hole.

Select the part and bring up concept explorer, suppress or remove the hole feature in it, or select the hole's faces and remove them (defeature) in face utilities.

Thanks for the guidance. I don't seem to be able to get to the feature or suppression options.
I click on the object, bring up concept explorer, click the + sign next to the part name and only "ACIS solid 59850" is displayed in the tree. Right click on that gives option to rename, inspector attributes and force resolve links.
EDIT
I have tried again from Duplicate part history and all is well. Thanks for the help.
Sorry for the basic question.

Sounds like you've inadvertantly dumped the history of the original. Might be useful to copy the copy with history to reconstitute it - and check that the history of the first copy hasn't gone AWOL, too. Don't apologise for asking questions, that's how everyone learns.

To remove a hole I go to the thicken tool and thicken the material in the hole half the diameter of the hole. Jim
