How can you mate a face to another face such that the original plane of extrusion remains fixed?

Basically I want any movement of a given mated face to automatically update the extrusion distance.

How can one accomplish this in shark?

Misterrogers,

I think I know what you are asking... correct me if I am wrong.

You would like to build a bookshelf, for example, that has 2 sides, and a top. When you move the top, to make it taller or shorter, you want the sides to adjust automatically.

I'm not sure Punchcad has the tools to do that the way you describe. You could possibly create some sketches, and control it with dimensions.

Or you could forget the constraints and dimensions, and just build your bookshelf using the basic tools, closed profiles, and extrudes. Then down the road, if the design changes, for example, if you want the bookshelf 2" higher, just move the top up. And move the top face of the sides up by the same amount.

It might be easier than pulling your hair out trying to constrain everything.

For example:

Mikeschn - thanks for the video - yes I was trying to have the top move in relation to the leg posts. I have no problem getting the width and depth to change according to my sketch (using constraints) but was hoping that mating would work much like solidworks mates.
