Hi There,

So far I'm enjoying learning ViaCAD and other drafting programs after using AutoCAD since 1996.

Even with the User Guide, however, I can't figure out how to get the proper line weights and types when I print to PDF.

This is what I've done so far, please tell me what I'm doing incorrectly:

I have pen weights assigned to each object;
all the objects are either white or gray;
I am using a dwg file from a 3rd party and ripped their title block - it's live around my 2D line drawings;
The print scale is 1/2" = 1'-0" and it prints properly - size-wise - to a 24"x36" Arch D sheet;
I'm on an iMac OS X;
When I print I select PDF ---> Save as PDF
When I open the pdf file all the lines are the same weight and none of my dashed lines are actually dashed.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Aloha,
Miliana

PS: I'm used to using color to denote line weights as I draft but then they still have color when I print to PDF. I'm sure there must be a way to change that?

Hi Miliana,

I've been doing quite a bit of work lately in V9 regarding printing. If you can private email me the file, I'll double check it prints correctly on v9 and compare with v8.

You can also download 9 using the links below to try yourself.

It looks like the pattern length is too small. Try increasing the scale of the pattern. 10 seemed possible...

To increase the dash pattern length try:
1. Select dashed line.
2. Display Inspector
3. Select Pen Properties
4. Select More from Pattern
5. Change Scale to 10.

Use eye dropper to change any additional lines.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have now tried setting the scale to 5 and to 10 and the dashed lines are still not printing as dashed and the line weights are still not appearing properly.

I'm going to see if I can print to PDF rather than save to PDF and see if that makes a difference.

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Aloha,
Miliana Johnson

PS: I did not see a link to download v9.

Miliana If you are using the use object color in the pen style drop down menus in the model to sheet dialog box they will never be dashed because the default line type scale is set to .100 and line weight is set to 2.11mm and and they can't be changed. You have to use only user defined line type styles and then everything is the same color which sucks.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying all the object I want dashed - or not continuous, anyway - need to be user-defined line type styles. I will try to figure out how to make a user-defined line type style.

I am not taking the model to sheet approach as the title sheet I need to use is in the model. Is this one reason why the line types are not showing up in the print?

When playing around with the model to sheet setup I was unable to make a new sheet file with my client's title blocks because I was unable to find the folder in which to create a vct file.

Okay, I got the dashed lines figured out. Changing the scale to 10 as Tim suggested worked for me once I realized my dashed lines had somehow become solid lines.

Still haven't figured out the line weight issue.
