Can someone make a tutorial on the bending function please.
I just can't seem to figure it out.

What I am trying to do is detailed i the picture.
I made this in sketchup last year. Its poorly done,
and I wanted to improve it, and make it with VC now.

I can not get it to bend properly(or at all) :confused:

You can't get a sharp bend from the bending tool.

If you want mitred bends, as in your graphic, make a copy of your bolt and another cylinder for the horizontal piece. Then use the Trim Solid tool to form the mitres.

If you want curved bends, redraw the bolt shank using new outlines and the pipe tool. Then add the head and thread as you did on the original.

I will try both ways out.

I wanted to see how the curved bends would look, but will probly stick with the mitred ones.

Is there a way to re-orientate the gripper after something has been rotated?
So the gripper will work in the workplane, and not in the rotated plane?
(Hope that makes sence)

K, I got a new one for yea...
Anouther bolt. this time its squished or elongated against the treads.

Its for 'out of round holes' :D

Is there a way to 'pinch' the treaded bolt after it is made?
Or is there some other ingenious way of creating it?

I know your wondering WTH I'm doing... well... I'm an engineer by trade, and I've had the need for some specialty bolts when something's not quite right.

ooooohh that's what you're up to ha ha!!

We buy a few million screws a year and i was about to send your squished bolt picture earlier to our favorite supplier to ask for a quote!!

I've also encountered the threadless screws before!! (Once in a long while though.)

Then for fun I sometimes ask the workers to save whatever rejected screws (hardly any... they dump it faster than anything). When the sales rep shows up I'd ask him how to get an RMA/exchange (just for the fun of it!!). The sales person (good buddy for the last 15 years) of course has a great sense of humor... "We always give you extras, not charge you for it and you still try to return or exchange a screw??!!" ha ha. He's the same guy that taught me that if I keep asking him for free engineering samples we actually don't have to buy any at all ha ha :) But we do...

Back in the days gone by, there was a chart for rivets that followed you bolt drawing pattern. Was interesting, i believe it came about in the engineer wars and no i don't have a copy.

Alright, I always like to post follow-ups with the projects I ask help on...
(sometime they take awhile though!!)
This is still pretty rough, but I thought it was worth posting now.
Needs some sanding, a clear coat, and a little silver paint to get the bolts/text and border to pop.

Size: 13" x 18" x 0.650" think.
Material: Walnut
Machining time: about 12 hours !!

did you do the complete design and layout in VIACAD or just parts and some done in Vcarve? Love to have the viacad file of the overall if you would consider sharing.

Hi guys, sorry, not for sale, at least not yet. This is a one of a kind.

I did the bolts only in ViaCAD. I did the rest of the layout and toolpaths in
Vectric's VCarve Pro.
