I only have Viacad 2d/3d. I was wondering, how one would model a pitman arm using VC. I am especially interested in how you would handle the 7 draft on the sides, since VC2d/3d doesn't have the draft command.
I've attached a sample drawing that you can use as a starting point.
Let's have some fun with this one... and share your models...

I'm thinking you want the tapered hole for the ball stud, Draw a half tapered rectangle with the 1 1/2" per foot taper. Do a lathe solid, move to position on the end of the arm, and subtract solid from the arm. Hope this helps, time is tight today, Merry Christmas. Larry

That may be true, but I was playing with the forging, not the machining... actually I am just interested in how the outside of the model is best created in VC.

Good model Jason... double rail sweep! I like it... I especially like that you added the blend radii to the parting line! Any other ideas? Maybe a loft? Mike...

One of the problems with sweeping is possible self intersecting or distorted surfaces. That will probably be why Jason has added rads to the leg, rather than attempting to creating sharp corner intersections
If you look at the model posted by Jason, you can see some distortion of the sweep surface.
I think, if those sharp corners are required, then it would be easier to create sections along the sweep profile and use skin solid.
I will have a play.

Mike,
A quick mov to show the model above. Nothing fancy in the modeling, just done to produce the model quickly/easily(I used VC pro, but used only tools available in 2d/3d)

Very nice Steve, I would have never thought of splitting the model to change the elevation of the bosses. Good job on that! And thanks for sharing that movie. I have off all of next week, so I am thinking about trying the movie thing too! Mike...
