Ok, I drew up the spirals for the Volutes (spiral areas) in CAD program, but now I need to model the spiral areas of the capital (similar to the link).
What is the most efficient method to do this in ViaCAD/Shark? It needs to have the flat high areas, and the concave low areas.

If you where to attempt to sweep around the spiral, you would need to break it into sections. The 2 rail sweep is not good in VC/Shark. It gets lost very easily.

I will have a play. Will try some networks.

Maybe I could extrude the spiral part up, and the I will have a non concave trough, which I could then bevel to approximate the concave area???

You could try that, maybe with a "variable blend/hold line". The line being along the bottom of the trough central between the 2 spirals?

Extruded the spiral up, and booleaned the flat area with the extruded area.
Then used the Blend tool in Radial mode.
Seems to partly work, except it won't let me blend certain areas. Gives me errors.

norbertsf.
While the accompanying picture and file are hardly the definitive examples of how to do this, they might be of some help, I hope. I used 2 Two Rail Surface Sweeps and a bit of line cutting to get a (very rough) approximation of what you're after.

It does look like using 2 rail sweeps is the way to go. I did make a quick attempt which was to create the spiral with the flat, then used Ellipse on the sections for the recess.

Guys thanks for the info/files. I will look into using a 2 rail sweep solution.

Next...I have to make a 3d Flame.....

Steve, I'll post a separate thread for that. An organic Flame.

Merry Christmas
