Thanks for the note. NickB made the same suggestion. I tried their settings and tried changing some parameters and I still get lousy models. Does anyone get fine models using FX v7? Art

I've done a few 3d prototypes.
It takes practice to get it right. Playing with the setting helps.

Great, what were your settings? Do you know how large the stl file was? Art

One of the files was 11MB. I don't recall the settings on these. You have to play with them. I do use glc_player to confirm the surface quality since sometimes the stl converter acts up. Obviously, the bigger the file the nicer the surface quality.

I have been using:- Surface Deviation: 0.03 Normal Deviation: 0 Edge length: 3 Aspect Ratio: 0 STL Facets: ON The STL files are usually scaled by 0.3333 after fixing. These values are eased on very large file to be within Shapeways' million facet limit.

this is one of my settings, Binary selection Surface Deviation: 0 Normal Deviation: 1.5 Edge length: .01 Aspect Ratio: 6.0 You can play with edge length to reduce the file size. the greater the number the smaller the file.

Guys, Thanks you so much for you help. Either way I make the settings I end up with a 1.2 MB file that is facetted. I then made a 10" sphere and used both rockyroad's and billbedford's setting and both times ended up with a 70kb file. Both times with the stl box checked. Can you guys replicate this? I would really appreciate it. Is there a possibility this is a problem with 968? My Computer (I am on a Mac)? Art Shark FX 7

Be sure to hit the update button to recalculate the facets/triangles after you change the settings.

Your settings gave me 1368 facets and 686 vertices, Bill's gave me 2456 facets and 1232 vertices both 70K. Do you get the same number for a 10" sphere? Thanks in advance, Art

With the default settings, I get 58472 facets for a 10" sphere. With my settings, It won't do it since it is a big sphere. I think size of part matters.

If you change the surface deviation to 1 I get twice the amount. Be sure to hit update. I have noticed that when I do an .stl it retains the previous settings.

for my rings and other jewelry pieces: edges:0.15 surfacedivision: 0.001 rest: default this is fine for waxprints but sometimes to big filesize for shapeway. Sometimes in ViaCad pro i have the problem, it will not facette the object. I open it with shark LT an it works. I have no idea why.
