It really IRKS me every time I get this .. I cannot for the life of me see why it's taking years to FIX such a blatant failure of the history tree

1. Build a network of curves such that a closed solid volume of surfaces can ultimately be stitched from them

2. Use Net Surfaces to surface your volume

3. Stitch a solid

4. Delete the solid

5. Check the history tree - only to find that all that surface and solid geometry still exists invisibly - and are secretly tied to every one of your original design lines

So now, move a point on one of your design lines and you must wait whilst the invisible surfaces and solids (and any dependents they have like blends etc) are updated.

STUPID !!

Every further design iteration / rebuild you undertake will increase the size of your file exponentially

Every time you move a point on one of your design lines, you must wait whilst these invisible ghostly dependencies from each iteration are updated

It's just STUPID and it's really OLD now

I've been harking on about it for years

NOW, DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND FIX IT - OR TELL US WHY YOU CAN'T !

try this simple example ..

.. a simple cover surface is split with a spline

- delete the 2 surface (splits)

now .. check out the feature tree .. it's reporting relationships that CANNOT any longer exist !!

IT SHOULD NOW SHOW ONLY A CIRCLE AND A SPLINE

So, my model has redundant dependencies and file sizes I cannot explain !

When can we expect a fix ?

Hi,

From:

http://www.cadforum.cz/catalog_en/?cat=14

I downloaded the 3d model of Spider Man and then into VC 3D 6 (latest/current build, but i will try this out in VC 5 Pro, too), imported him as DXF. IIRC, at that point, i changed the model to surface, or maybe it was into a solid.

I rotated the object, changed colors, and so on. Then when i undid the import, the layer containing the parts of him remained. Not too, bad, but when I reimported the model (not simply Ctrl+v'd him), the color i earlier gave to part the leg came back. There was no undo history for further attempting to undo the color. My choice was either to select the affected area and re-color or color-match, or to delete and restart/reimport.

But, i must admit i had open both VC6 2d/3d and VC5 Pro. But, i would not expect either to mutually interfere with the histories of the other.

Any more news on this issue Tim

Because design is an iterative process .. I find this bug to be a serious one

We dont necessarily adjust a surface and continue - we build it, blow it away .. build it, blow it away and so on

I just opened a file of only 10 splines and uncovered 24 surfaces and a bunch of solids hidden in the feature tree which don't actually exist

Explain that one to me

... and we worry about big file sizes in Shark .. bet your money on this being a major contributor !!

I would love to hear some feedback on routing out this issue

Please see image .. where exactly are these cover surfaces? I know they're there cos I can change their colour !
