If you are measuring between points or drawing a line where geometry already exists ... you will be (by default) snapping to that existing geometry
Can we have an adjustment to snapping - whereby the second point of that line or measure operation .. snaps first (and by default) to a point at the same depth as the first point - if such a point exists
To illustrate the problem : if I draw a cube at 100 x 100 x 100 in top view .. and measure one edge - I consistently get the answer 141.421 (Angle 315 degrees)
I'm sure we can do better than this - particularly for beginners
Can we prioritise snap points ?
Shouldn't those at the same screen depth get priority !?
Thoughts ?

That's a snapping good suggestion Jol !!! I'm always rotating this or that to find the correct points to snap to as a workaround. Thanks Jol, and add this to the lengthly list of good suggestions, a real time saver. Larry

Jol,
Are you using Verify>Dist Pt - Pt
In top view im not seeing this on PC...try switching off XYZ align and see if that makes a difference. Are you sure you are not snapping to the origin :p

look at the image Paul Yes, it is possible it's a Mac only issue - but I think I remember Larry being on the PC

On the PC I dont see that feedback window as shown in your image....I haven't used VC as long as you remember, I just wanted to check if I was doing the same as you.

Paul measure tool (in hollow arrow palette) XYZ on or off - it's the same no .. the origin is not a factor

Sorry mate...tape measure:p okay
Works ok here on PC although the mouse needs a wiggle on the 2nd point sometimes for the data box to actually show up..
Why do we have Tape measure & Dist Pt-Pt, would it not be better to merge the two into one more informative dialogue?

OK - thanks Paul
So .. can we verify this is a Mac only issue
Should be easy to fix then !?
EDIT : I just tried this again and it was working fine - on the top edge of my 100 cubed block (top view)
then I tried it on the other edges and got 141mm again
Tim .. surely this is just a case of prioritising point snapping dependent on view ?
