How to export point values to a text table? (#4288)

I have many points along several curves. The Xfoil CFD program requires a table of text values with the X Y values along the curves. How is this done from ViaCAD? Tim Olson suggested using DXF, but my CFD code only reads simple text files. I can get Adobe Illustrator to read a DXF file, but i am not sure if that does me any good. Any other suggestions?

Something like printing a surface grid file using all selected points would be usable. Tim

If you can send me the airfoil asap (
[email protected] ) I can export it using our AeroPack addon. It has a set of options for exporting airfoils. But I'm out of town from the Thurs till Sunday though...

I am not sure what that test.spl file was for. Was that an test gridding of an ellipse? This section is for a proprietary design and the client doesn't want it released. And in any case, i have too many sections to do that i can keep emailing them to you for hand work. Thanx for the offer though. That was very generous of you. Are you saying i should just upgrade to Shark? Not sure i can afford that. I run a small business with a very tight budget. Would you believe i got around the issue by writing a parsing script to directly read the points section of the IGES file? Tim

Get Polycad from polycad.co.uk. It's free, but has to be registered. Polycad exchanges IGES curves with Punch and others, and does all manner of useful stuff with them, but specific to your request, can get interpolated points from a curve in a variety of ways and spacings, can export .csv files (comma delimited text lists), and also has its own logical, human-readable file format, .geo. You can open a file in a text editor and format your values directly.

PolyCAD looks quite capable. Does it come in a Linux version? The examples all looks like Windows and i don't find anywhere on the site what the system requirements are. Tim
