Recently tried to interact with a CNC shop.

They use BobCad.

I sent an exported DXF & DWG version of my parts. They reported being unable to open/view files. I suspect it is operator error on their end but was curious if anyone else has attempted this interaction?

Hi

What what version of dwg/dxf did you export? Maybe they cannot open the version you exported?

good point.

I'm pretty sure I sent R 2011.

I asked what they preferred and was told "just send a PDF and we will quote from that."

I really don't like that idea. Primarily, it allows for transcription errors. Secondly, I don't feel like dimensioning the thing.

I just received email from another shop.

They are also unable to process the files I sent (same files). They requested .igs or .stp versions.

Part of my learning curve I guess. This is the first time I've tried to interact with these shops. I would hope that once the formats are established things will be smoother.

R2011 embeds acis/sat into the file. If they cannot process this data try r12 as it tessellates the data into something easier to import.

Thanks Tim.

It's Greek at this point but I will do it. :)

Actually just hung up the phone with the machinist I'm working with. He clarified quite a bit of the expected interface/file format details.

We are rolling along.
