Assembly modifying Shark FX (#3692)

I have an assembly of referenced parts that I need to put a hole through. The program won't allow me to select the parts. Do I have to put the hole through each part separately?

So I've had 64 views so far but no replies...:( Is my problem unclear? Is my problem impossible? Does anyone use xrefs when modelling? Tim Olson has helped, I quote "Create the part, xref into other files. Change the original part, all files xref should update." But when I try to use the xref part to cut away I'm unable to select it. I don't want to bother him again. Is there a special technique I'm not aware of? yours hopefully

I think the reason for xref's are to reduce file size, but still provide an overall view of the assembly. If you want to use a part to cut away, I would Import the Shark file or .sat file of that part to modify the part that you want to cut away, and then delete the imported file, and replace it with the xref.

Thanks L You probably know what I'm going to say next, I want the assembly that contains the xref to update each time I change the orginal part. It seems odd to me that I can't use the geometry of the xref when it's just sitting there in my assembly.

there are some issues with thge xref files, if you have a referenced file you cant access to edit it via file/reference/referencemanger, then you have an option to edit that opend the file, after you change something you must save it (here the app ask you to overwrite the file, i think this is not logical), then you can close if you wish, (no need to),
To reflect the change on your referenced file you need to either update all on file/reference/update all menu command or select the one you need on the reference manager and click update button
yep, to many steps, but this how it works
BTW, sections view on model to sheet still not work wiht xref files as I described here:

Hi Luis Thanks for the reply. I think my function need is not met by this program and so I will be purchasing the more expensive software that I know can do this operation.

those ones works almost the same, SW for example, you have to edit the referenced part and save it, but, i must be agree that you can doit in less steps, and the assembly relationships are more solids, but, to be honest, for modeling, I prefer shark. Luis G.

I've heard that SW is similar but not SolidEdge or SpaceClaim

All of which are $3000 programs with a $1000 a year (almost) mandatory maintenance program, that places them in a completely different league to Shark and ViaCAD Pro, its $250 little brother.

You may have paid $250 but the price is currently $1795!
I'm asking for my money back....
