Hi Tim,

Dunno if its because ive been flipping between software but im sure I could
modify the Distance after creating the part in the Object info window by input the value & hitting apply ??? doesnt work now in 806b. It does work in the top reference bar but I prefer to work in object info to apply accurate dims.

Anyone else see this :confused:

Yes you have been using the other one;) Oh yes you can change the distance from the history in ViaCAD. What you can't do, however, is change the direction. Oops .. actually it is possible to edit the direction of some types of extrude.

Is that what you mean?

Paul, I only thought what you have been trying to do was available with the parametric constraint function. ViaCAD is so nice when it comes to editing stuff in the past- from what I recall?

Guyz,

Just for the record I dont have the same problem with 810b, must have been a glitch in the earlier 806beta:confused:.

IMHO - I think it makes more sense to edit the part or feature etc IN 'Object Info' and not the bar along the top which was used to create the part. Anyway, for those interested you can change the direction in object info by changing the vectors. Changing 1 for -1 does exactly what you need ?

Does that make sense Tom ?;)

Hi Paul,

The inputs for the "Object info" and the top menu for the object are not consistent.

The top menu for the object will allow a minus for the Distance whereas in the "Object info" it will not. The top menu dX dY dZ give a relative distance in units whereas the "Object info" dX dY dZ give a direction vector based on trig.

Yup, I partly agree but what if the input curves are planar but tilted in more than one viewport...maybe after it was originally drawn ?. How can this work then and how/what would the UI need to manage that ?

An extrude from a planer curve that as been rotated will show in the object info as a direction vector based from the global workplane with a distance from the planer curves origin. (although rotating a polygon before its extrusion does not give an entry into the concept explorer)
If you extrude a planer curve and then rotate, then the object info will show the last command/feature on that object. So if the extruded object as just been rotated, then info about its rotation and origin will show. You would need to refer to the concept explorer to get other info about the actual extrude.

I dont quite follow.
The concept explorer lists the features of which the object info can be seen for the chosen feature.

Ah yes, you can change the direction using the - sign.

But one could also add a button that does the same thing... perhaps it's a bit more intuitive?

P.S. Tim, this is also a good dialog to point out that one could type in a -7 in the start value and a +5 in the end value if one does not want a completely symetrical extrusion. I used that feature a lot over the years.

Where did you get the extrude popup box from? I dont see this in VC v6 (PC)

It looks like that particular graphic comes from something like Unigraphics NX4 or 5.

Exactly, it comes from NX3. But NX3 has lots of ideas that we could use to polish up ViaCAD.

BTW, Pro/E has that button too!

I like you idea Mike but I tend to agree with Steve, this happens on a regular basis here (mentioing no names Tom ;)) but that is why there is a suggestions area ?. You can always quote this link if it helps get across your point ;)

This thread has gotten out of hand. Can we get back on topic?

There is something very weird about editing extrude data.:confused:

See the attached extrude.vc3

The first extrude in the tree has object info of magnitude ONLY. The second has magnitude and a direction vector!

The first cannot be edited in the object info, the second can!

Sometimes the top menu data entry fields appear, sometimes they don't!

Starting from a clean open of ViaCad, select the model, open concept explorer and the info dialogs. Expand the tree so the two extrudes can be observed. So far NO top menu data entry fields! Select any tool then de-select it. Now select the model again. Top menu data fields appear now.

The numbers in the top menu data entry fields look like extrude data, but don't seem to relate to the item selected in the history tree. They do however modify the selected item! In a very unpredictable way, obviously!

Where is the extrude vector for the first extrude? Why can't I edit the object info?

Why does the top menu appear? Why does it allow me to edit anything?

I'm getting very distracted trying to separate the bugs from the learning curve.:mad: (please, please, please a known bugs area)
