Bending ply in 2 dimensions (#4396)

I have to model some bent ply as a seat shell. Obviously thin enough ply can be bent in a number of ways but can't form a compound bend. So far I have managed to create my ply form and bend it around a path so I have the right form along the centreline of the seat shell. However I now need to curve the back and put dips for the thighs into the seat. Is there an obvious way of bending a section without introducing compound bends or calculating the sections to skin?

I've made a mockup of what I'm trying to achieve so I've attached an image. You can see the form bent in one plane and the red lines showing what I'm try to get to. No ideas at all?

It can't be done without compound curvature.

Assuming that the image below meet what you want approach, then you need to do a few steps:
1.- make your trace for a desired shape to make a net surface

2.- make net surface and then thicken solid surface tool

thats it, you can add more curves (prior to make the net surface) to your net surface for better control of your surface shape.

Hope this help

That's an awesome tutorial/steps and help from Luis on how to do it! I think i sat on a similar type of contoured chair before and it was uncomfortable. The middle bulge will get in the way of guys' body part:) Maybe add an extra line nearer to the front edge so that more of the seating surface is flat. Also there are some of us guys with lousy posture... we can sit up straight/correctly for the first 10 minutes only. After that we start sliding forward and the bulge at the front will get in the way again. Anyways... silly me here:)
